Holiday sickness at Kalithea Horizon Royal Hotel Rhodes

We have received reports of holiday sickness at the Kalithea Horizon Royal Hotel in Rhodes, Greece, which left several guests suffering symptoms of diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever. 
The Kalithea Horizon Royal Hotel is a 4-star all-inclusive hotel, advertised in the Thomson brochure, with over 400 rooms. Many holidaymakers submitted stool samples to doctors when they returned to the UK to help determine the source of the illness outbreak, which affected over 400 people.
Holidaymakers at the Kalithea Horizon Royal Hotel had complained of strong smells of sewage around the hotel complex, and reported that health and hygiene standards were very poor. Pest control vans were also spotted regularly around the Kalithea Horizon Hotel, and one guest even reported seeing a rat run across the bar area.
